Pilates
is a system of body and mind exercise developed by
Joseph Pilates in the 1930’s. It consists of a
series of isometric exercises done on a mat or on
various equipment originally designed by Pilates
himself. Done correctly this exercise style stretches
and strengthens the deep abdominal and back muscles,
improves posture, creates an overall streamlined shape
as well as flexibility and balance. Pilates creates a
greater body awareness and also aids in stress relief.

Core
philosophy of this low impact but muscle-control
oriented fitness system is to train the usually
underused and sleeping intrinsic muscles. Control of
the deep muscles is not only vital for injury
prevention, but also for the ability to utilize the
whole body as one. Pilates focuses on training the
body and the mind to work together toward the goal of
overall fitness, endurance and balance.
Pilates
Mat Work
This type of Pilates is practiced on a padded mat. There is a basic exercise routine consisting of resistance movements that emphasize specific breathing patterns, core stabilization and concentration. Pilates is the ideal method for anyone to re-balance, re-shape and re-align. As a teacher, I first tend to focus on understanding particular needs of my student’s body structure.
I then work with him/her to enhance the strong points and improve the weak. I instruct each exercise to strengthen and stretch all muscles involved, open the joints, release the tension, and help my student to gradually attain the next level of body conditioning and awareness.
